The Ford Transit – The Van’s Van and our Rental Van of the Month

The Ford Transit needs no introduction. Ford’s own marketing material declares the Transit as the ‘Backbone of Britain’ and after 50 years as the most popular van on the road, few would disagree. It’s only fitting therefore that we recognise the standard, short wheelbase Ford Transit as our very first Rental Van of the Month.

The original Ford Transit was introduced back in 1965 and replaced the outgoing ‘Thames Vans’. Almost named the Ford V-Series, the original van was renamed The Transit at the last minute in line with the name given to it’s German cousin. The Transit was a runaway success from the moment it rolled off the production line and through constant evolution has been that way ever since.

The Ford Transit – Simplicity without Sparsity

Built on the simple premise of being able to carry standard sized pallets without the need for unpacking, the original efficient simplicity of the Ford Transit has been retained through to the most recent versions, although engine power, driver comfort, fuel efficiency and payload have all improved over the years to leave us with a van which is the benchmark by which all others are compared and few manage to rival.

On the outside, the Ford Transit is unmistakable in any of its guises, models and iterations. It’s exactly the right size, exactly the right shape and looks just like a van should. Like all medium sized rental vans, it’s large enough for most people’s needs, but not so large that it’s hard to drive or to live with. It’s tall enough to make loading and unloading easy, affording the driver a commanding view of the road, without being so tall that low bridges or height restrictions become too much of an issue.

The cab of the Ford Transit is as car-like as it’s possible to be, looking and feeling like a slightly taller, slightly chunkier Ford Mondeo than a commercial vehicle. Boasting numerous driver aids, creature comforts and modern features, van hire customers won’t take long to adjust to the modern Ford Transits in our van rental fleet and with three seats in the cab, you’ll be able to bring an extra pair of hands to assist with loading and unloading. All this from as little as £30.71 per day.

The Almost Infinite Ford Transit Range

While we’ve selected the SWB Ford Transit as our first Van of the Month, it’s worth noting the dizzying array of standard and custom variants of this hugely popular panel van. At Priory, we have a large selection of vans from the Ford Transit Range, Hi-top variants, Long Wheelbase and Extra Long Wheelbase versions, Luton Vans based on the Transit chassis and cab, even our minibuses are Ford Transit variants. Whatever you need a van for, there’s a Transit to suit and it’s likely we have just the rental van to do the job.

If you need to move just about anything from point A to point B without it costing the earth, why not get in touch with us and find out for yourself why the legendary Ford Transit is both the Nation’s favourite and our Van of the Month for July?
